Expected petrol prices in Pakistan from November 1, 2023

 

ISLAMABAD – The federal government is likely to further decrease petrol prices in Pakistan for next month of November in line with the downward trend in the international market and the appreciation of local currency.

Reports said the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has started preparing a draft for a decrease in prices of petroleum products.

The final decision will be taken by the Petroleum Division on October 31 after consultation with caretaker Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar. The new prices will come into effect from November 1.

Currently, the federal government is charging Rs60 per litre in the wake of levy on petrol and Rs55 per litre on diesel.

The oil prices in international markets have witnessed a downward trend as British crude oil prices have dropped below $90 per barrel, while American crude oil prices have fallen below $84 per barrel.

Astor Markhors Hunting Permit Auctioned for over Rs.5 Crore

 

The wildlife department in the northernmost territory of the country has conducted a record-breaking auction for hunting permits of Astor Markhors under the trophy scheme. According to reports from local media, authorities have sold a permit for trophy hunting of markhor, a wild goat native to the high-altitude monsoon forests of central Asia, for an impressive sum of over $186,000 (equivalent to 5 crores and 17 lacs in the local currency).

The issuance of hunting permits occurs annually in several regions, including Gilgit-Baltistan, the Tooshi Conservancy in Chitral District, the Gehrait Conservancy in Chitral District, and the Kaigah Conservancy in Kohistan District.

This year, the highest bid was received for the specific species of Astor markhor, amounting to $186,000.
In the framework of the trophy hunting program, local communities receive 80% of the license fee, while the government retains the remainder. The precise amount varies as licenses are allocated through a competitive bidding process.

Notably, only elderly and male markhors are targeted under the trophy hunting program. These animals can be distinguished by their horns, gait, and body structure. The success of this program is being recognized as a significant step in the preservation of biodiversity in Pakistan.

Markhor, the national animal of Pakistan, is safeguarded by both local and international regulations such as the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES).

The objective of this initiative is to enrich the payment ecosystem for the thriving IT industry in the country by integrating these international payment gateways into the global financial framework of the IT industry, stated Muhammad Zohaib Khan, Chairman of Pakistan Software Houses Association (P@SHA).

Khan underscored the pivotal role played by Federal Caretaker Minister for Information Technology and Telecom, Dr. Umar Saif, in drawing global attention to Pakistan's IT industry during the GITEX Dubai 2023 event.

Citing Saif, Khan revealed that the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecom is actively working towards launching the Pakistan Startup Fund. This initiative is expected to attract venture capitalists to Pakistan and foster the growth of the startup culture in the nation.

The fund will be established using resources from IGNITE, the National Technology Fund, which receives funding from the telecom industry revenues of the federal government.

Khan also highlighted the establishment of the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC), which has received accolades from the United Arab Emirates (UAE). SIFC has identified IT as one of its five primary focus areas.

The Chairman of P@SHA stressed the significance of innovation and financial inclusion in driving rapid growth in the IT and IT-enabled Services (ITeS) industry.

Notably, the IT sector in Pakistan holds several noteworthy distinctions, including being the sole major industry in the country with a trade surplus, the potential to generate up to $5 billion in foreign exchange within a year, the capacity to bridge Pakistan's trade deficit, and the capability to stabilize the economy by creating high-paying employment opportunities.
